Tranquilo

The bus ride from Ciudad Del Este to Asuncion was a little different from what I expected. It was a nice bus but I was expecting it to be direct as they had told me, not stopping every twenty to thirty minutes to pick up more passengers or to deliver some goods. As a result, the near empty bus which departed the terminal in Ciudad Del Este quickly filled up.

The bus driver told me to take my big backpack on board with me. "Tranquilo," he said. Too big to put anywhere else, I placed it on the empty seat beside me. But of course within 45 minutes there were four or five people standing in the aisles, including a young woman holding her baby. So I put my bag in the aisle to give her a seat.

I started to regret my decision when her little baby - no more than 6-7 months old - wouldn't settle. She was always crying and wouldn't feed properly - always detaching from her mother's breast. So I asked the mother if I could hold her a little. She passed her over but her crying seemed to escalate a notch. So I told the mother I am a Chiropractor and asked if I could adjust her. "How?" she asked, so I gently pressed her hand with my pinky finger, showing her pressure I would be using. She said ok.

As the mother held her I checked the top of the baby's neck - only - and then adjusted her with the gentle pressure demonstrated. Needless to say she was crying and screaming more than before - much to the delight to the other passengers - but immediately after I finished she began to feed, and feed well. And then she fell asleep at the breast... tranquilo!

The mother looked at me confused and asked what I did and I explained her the magic of Chiropractic.

I´m just about to get on the bus for Buenos Aires :)

  1. G'day Mate,

Of course we remember you... in fact I even mentioned you in my last post.

Back in sunny old Sydney now, wishing we were still travelling and that there was a chiropractor here to help me with my stiff neck today.

    Keep having a wicked time.

    Cheers,
