After the immense joy of serving Chiropractic to Brasil, I parted company with my new family and met up with my host.
But before that I met with some other Couchsurfers who took me to the seaside fish market where we bought a kilogram of fresh shrimp from one shop and took them to another shop just a few metres away, who fried them all for us in garlic. I don't think I need to elaborate on the deliciousnessiousnous of it, haha
The first day in Fortaleza I just walked around, checked out the fort - which I think is actually the miliatary base - and the cathedral and then just walked along the street and the beach, observing the concrete jungle which I competely didn't expect. It spanned across the whole skyline, ironically leaving the palm trees in the shadows.
That night I met with a very other people for dinner and learned that a couple of them were going to a small, theatre festival in a place called Guaramiranga. I didn't really know ther but we seemed to have good rapport. So after asking a million and one quesitons I forced myself to go along in the name of experience - and usually when I force myself to do things like this they turn out to be the best experiences I have.
Sam, or Samuelle (pronouced Sam-wew), was from Brittany in France and has been travelling South America since April. He's been in Brasil for a few weeks and speaks excellent Spanish, so his Portuguese is pretty great as well. Ariane is from Sao Paulo, Brasil. Her English isn't fluent but we can understand with my limited Spanish and Portuguese, here limited Spanish and English and mostly with Sam's translation, haha. I'm sure we were all thinking, "What did we get ourselves into" but we all bonded super quickly and became amazing friends. I'm actually leaving Fortaleza tonight in an attempt to catch up with Sam and head to Rio together, via some small towns and national parks, etc.
